Choosing the Right Clip Size and Spacing for Secure Wreath Assembly

If you want to create professional-quality wreaths, selecting the right clip size and spacing is an essential first step to achieve the durability and premium appearance you’re after. Whether you’re a seasoned maker or a beginner, we hope these DIY wreath-making tips help you build to your heart’s content this holiday season!

Wreath Clips 101 – Standard vs. Reduced Clip Count

Your wreath clamp ring’s clips hold your foliage firmly in place, preventing materials from slipping as the greenery tends to dry and shrink. More clips mean more secure holding, but also require a bit more time to assemble everything into place.

We’ve found that the greater the number of clips used significantly impacts not only the amount of materials you need, but the amount of time you spend crafting. Using standard clip arrangements, some of our customers have said too many handfuls of foliage are required for each wreath. The issue is that the foliage width does not increase appropriately for large diameter wreaths, so the building process becomes excessively long.

Additionally, less wasted bough material is created when longer lengths are used, making large-diameter wreaths more cost-effective from a material standpoint. Mitchell Reduced Clip Clamp Rings are the answer to these challenges.

Mitchell Reduced Clamp Rings with Steel Clip Design and Patented Manufacturing Process

After years of testing with numerous types of wreath material, we engineered the optimal reduced clip count wreath rings to address the complaints listed above and save our customers money. Reducing the clips likewise reduces the number of handfuls of foliage required for each wreath ring, which also speeds up wreath production significantly.

Basically, our reduced clamp designs allow for the creation of fuller large-diameter wreaths and while wasting less bough material in the building process. As the ring diameter increases, the space between each clip increases proportionally until the spacing maximizes at 4.7″ on rings with diameters greater than 30”.

All Mitchell Wreath Rings feature premium steel clips that adhere to our specialty design and patented manufacturing process, engineered to not spring back after clamping. They maintain grip even as your materials dry, ensuring your wreaths last long throughout the season.

Clip Size Standards for Wreath Builders

Mitchell Wreath Rings offers both Standard Wreath Rings and Reduced Clip Count Rings on our clamp rings from 10” to 54”. That allows you to choose the best clip style that works best for the foliage you plan to use.

Our Standard Rings are produced with one clip for each inch of wreath ring diameter. This results in the spacing between each clip to be 3.14”, regardless of the size of the wreath ring.

Be sure to specify which style ring that you desire when ordering your rings.
